Volunteering makes Glasgow Furs possible. These guidelines are here to help everyone on the team feel confident about how we work together to keep our events safe, welcoming, and inclusive.

What We Ask of Volunteers

  • Act in the best interests of the community.
  • Work as a team and follow agreed decisions made in the volunteer chat.
  • Be reliable and communicate clearly.
  • Stay within the scope of your assigned role.
  • If unsure, ask in the volunteer chat (or check with your Lead for time-sensitive decisions).

Respect & Conduct

Treat everyone with respect, kindness, and patience - regardless of race, gender, gender identity, religion, disability, sexual orientation, or background. Harassment, discrimination, or abuse will not be tolerated.

Reporting Concerns

If something feels off, raise it in the volunteer chat as soon as you can. If it's urgent, grab any volunteer immediately. We'd rather hear about small concerns early than have them grow into bigger problems.

Operational Guidelines

Glasgow Furs events are strictly 18+. Volunteers don't enforce Challenge 25 or conduct age verification. ID may only be checked for ticket verification at paid events.

Keep an eye out for attendee welfare and let the team know if someone needs help. Don't try to handle situations beyond your role or training - it's always okay to ask for backup.

Keep personal data and incident details confidential. Only share information with authorised volunteers on a need-to-know basis.

Data Protection is handled by Glasgow Furs Admins, anything involving personal data, privacy, or data requests. If you're ever unsure, raise it with them - don't guess.

Follow venue rules, report hazards, and don't volunteer while impaired by alcohol or substances. If you spot a risk, tell the team promptly.

Only speak on behalf of Glasgow Furs if you've been authorised to do so. Avoid sharing sensitive or private information online.

All volunteer discussions and decisions must happen in the official Glasgow Furs Volunteer Telegram chat - not in private DMs. This keeps things transparent and consistent. Everything discussed in the volunteer chat is confidential and must never be shared outside that space.

When decisions are needed, stay neutral and focus on evidence. If you're personally involved in a dispute, step back and let someone else handle it. Decisions should be based on information we can be confident about, not unverified claims or screenshots without context.

What Happens if Guidelines Are Breached

All concerns are reviewed carefully and based on evidence. Possible outcomes include:

  1. An informal chat
  2. A first warning
  3. A final warning
  4. Removal from Glasgow Furs events, spaces, and chats

Stepping Down

Volunteers may step down at any time. Glasgow Furs may remove volunteer status if guidelines are breached.
